Sony Creative Software Introduces Vegas Pro 9 With Powerful New Editing Tools For Broadcast And Video Professionals

Sony Creative Software Inc., a leading provider of professional video and audio editing applications, today announced Vegas Pro 9 software, the latest version of its award-winning nonlinear HD video and audio editing (NLE) application. Vegas Pro 9 software features a new customizable interface for optimized viewing and enhanced usability, as well as significant improvements for professional video editors, including direct browsing and import of Sony XDCAM EX footage, native file support for the RED ONE camera, compress to MXF file format during capture from SD/HD-SDI sources, a scalable 4K workflow, and powerful new effects and editing enhancements. The software includes both native 32-bit and 64-bit versions at no additional cost, enabling editors to take full advantage of today's most advanced hardware while retaining compatibility with older systems.

"Our Vegas Pro software was the first editing application to provide a comprehensive end-to-end solution for the Sony XDCAM format, including an innovative proxy workflow and extremely fast no-recompress smart render to MXF," said Dave Chaimson, vice-president of global marketing for Sony Creative Software. "Vegas Pro 9 broadens our commitment to the broadcast community by adding workflow enhancements throughout the production chain, including native .mp4 support for Sony XDCAM EX files and real-time baseband SD/HD recording to 50 Mb/s MXF files using industry-standard capture cards. Vegas Pro has always been a great choice for video journalists on the go, thanks to its ability to scale to a wide range of cost-effective mobile computing solutions. Vegas Pro 9 extends this scalability to a new level by offering the option of working in a full 64-bit mode, enabling power users to take advantage of today's multi-core/multi-processor workstations and 64-bit operating systems."

New Vegas Pro 9 Feature Highlights

• Enhanced Native XDCAM and AVCHD Support
The new Device Explorer feature enables users to quickly browse the contents of both XDCAM EX devices and AVCHD cameras, allowing users to selectively import files and use them natively, without conversion to an intermediate format.

Vegas Pro 9 also allows users to directly capture XDCAM-compatible MXF files from supported SD/HD-SDI sources. The new capture-compress function allows broadcast editors to convert their legacy SD or HD tape-based material, including Digital Betacam, HDCAM, and DVCPRO 100, into high-quality, IT-friendly MXF clips conforming to the Sony XDCAM MPEG2 standard.

• 4K Workflow Enhancements
In addition to supporting frame sizes up to 4096x4096 (4K), Vegas Pro 9 software offers improved performance working with high-resolution still formats as well as added support for gigapixel-resolution images.

• Unique New Video Effects
Six new effects plug-ins allow editors to create a variety of high-quality effects for video and still images. These provide original creative solutions for titles and special effects. The new Gradient Wipe Transition offers interesting new organic and artistic transitions.

• New Editing Enhancements
New workflow enhancements in Vegas Pro 9 software help speed up production in a number of ways. Customizable layouts allow each user to arrange their workflow for maximum creativity. Enhancements have been made for importing and archiving media. New keyboard/mouse modifiers help to save even more time by streamlining editing commands.

• Native Support for RED ONE Cameras
Vegas Pro 9 software now offers native support for opening and editing RED ONE (.r3d) files on the timeline to support 4K HD workflows using footage from RED high definition video cameras.

• Improved Image Support
Vegas Pro 9 software provides native import and export support for industry standard still image formats. DPX and OpenEXR are highly flexible image formats that give editors more latitude for effects and color correction. By offering support for these additional high-end file formats, Vegas Pro 9 software provides an effect workflow with graphic effects packages. Vegas Pro 9 software also now supports gigapixel-size images directly on the timeline. This feature allows editors to use these large pictures for creating a movie sequence by using pan/scan and crop techniques while maintaining HD resolution.

• Audio Editing Enhancements
Building on industry-leading audio capabilities, Vegas Pro 9 software now offers improved audio-waveform drawing during recording, which greatly increases workflow speed. Audio-only edits, such as event moves, trims and ASR envelopes, are no longer quantized to frame boundaries by default, helping editors match audio and video to an exact event on the timeline. A "Use all Streams and Channels" command has been added to the Trimmer window shortcut menu enabling users to choose how streams and channels are handled when adding media to the timeline.

Product Demos at 2009 NAB Show
The Vegas Pro 9 application will be demonstrated at the Sony Creative Software booth C10515, LVCC, Hall C5 at the 2009 NAB Show April 20-23. Visit the Sony Creative Software booth for a complete schedule of presentation topics.

EDIROL F-1 Video Field Recorder Version 2.0 Announced with Additional Accessories

Roland Systems Group (RSG), a leader in portable audio and video field recording devices, is pleased to announce Version 2.0 of the award winning EDIROL F-1 Video Field Recorder with additional accessories. These new features will be debuted at the 2009 NAB show in Las Vegas at the RSG booth (SL10420).

The EDIROL F-1 is the ideal addition for any videographer or producer wanting to accelerate their workflow by capturing high quality video in the field. With two additional audio inputs, no file size limitation, removable storage, networkability and multiple power options, the F-1 can be used anywhere and in a variety of applications.

The feature set of the F-1 now includes:

  • Support for MPEG-2TS formats from 2 to 50 Mbps
  • SD/HD-SDI input via the new EDIROL VC-50HD Video Field Converter
  • 64 GB Solid State Removable Drive Option
  • Loop Record and Pre-Record Functions
  • Free Quick-cut Editing Utility Software
  • Gold Mount Power Adapter Option for Anton Bauer batteries.

With the ability to now support the MPEG-2 TS format up to 50Mbps, very high quality video capture takes you beyond the standard HDV (25 Mbps) level. Additionally the selectable bit rate allows recording as low as 8Mbps (HD) providing up to 27 hours on the standard 120GB hard drive (112 hours at 2Mbps in SD). Using the F-1 in conjunction with the new EDIROL VC-50HD Video Field Converter enables direct SD/HD-SDI recording and playback. (Refer to separate press on EDIROL VC-50HD) The new 64GB solid-state drive ensures reliable recording especially in critical or extreme environments. The EDIROL F1-SSD64 records approximately 4.5 hours in standard MPEG- 2TS (25Mbps).

Loop Recording mode can divide files at selected periods (10/ 30/ 60 minutes) and then keep deleting the oldest file as storage reaches capacity. This function can be controlled remotely via network. The newly added pre-record function ensures that a sudden or important moment is never missed by adding the previous 3 seconds of material onto the current file when record is activated.

The EDIROL F-1 Utility Software has been updated to include an "Edit Mode" which is especially convenient for quick cut editing. In addition to still images, multi-format video can be edited on the same timeline along with any necessary up/down conversion. A free version of the F-1 Utility software can be downloaded at www.edirol.com/f1

Version 2.0 of the F-1 can now record time code with video regardless of whether the connected camera embeds timecode or not. Time code can also be re-generated within an HDV/DV stream. The Marker function stamps the video file with time code and/or recording time when the "REC" button is pressed during recording. This enables the ability to quickly locate scenes during editing.
The video capture files from the F-1 are compatible with all popular NLE software systems.

Clipwrap, from Divergent Media, has now included native support for the F-1 and can rapidly rewrap any F-1 .m2t file as a Final Cut Pro compatible .mov files. Clipwrap is available for download at www.clipwrap.com.

Boris FX Announces Boris Continuum Complete 6 FxPlug Public Beta

Boris FX , the leading developer of integrated effects technology for video and film, announced that a public beta of Boris Continuum Complete 6 FxPlug (BCC 6 FxPlug) for Apple Pro Video Applications is now available.

BCC 6 FxPlug brings over 200 filters to Apple Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Final Cut Express. In addition to new features included with the recently-released Boris Continuum Complete 6 AE for Adobe - such as Extruded Text, Splines, and Shapes - BCC 6 FxPlug takes advantage of Apple FxPlug's real-time architecture for simultaneous live previews of dozens of preset transitions, glows, and color and film look effects in a newly-designed effects browser window. Code-named "Popcorn", this new technology delivers the best of Boris on Apple's FxPlug platform.

"With the number of filters and presets growing fast in everyone's Final Cut editor, it is hard to find the right look or animation quickly using traditional menus and scroll lists," comments Boris Yamnitsky, founder and president, Boris FX. "Our new, innovative Preset Effects Browser Window allows for a lot of brainstorming without a lot of headache."

The initial release of BCC 6 FxPlug will feature over a dozen new FxPlug Shaders. Many of the FxPlug Shaders draw on BCC strengths such as lights, keying, and 3D. FxPlug Shaders are unique to Apple Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, and Motion, tying directly to each host application's render pipe for maximum efficiency and render speed.

BCC 6 FxPlug will be publicly demonstrated for the first time at the NAB 2009 exhibition held in Las Vegas , Nevada from April 20-23, 2009 at Booth SL5320.

Pricing and Availability
The public beta of Boris Continuum Complete 6 FxPlug is available for free, immediate download from the Boris FX web site at www.borisfx.com.
