thanks very much for the informative comparison. i am deciding between the canon xh-a1s and the sony hvr-z5u and i also wanted to understand the differences between the sony 5 & 7 models. the trade rag write-ups are pretty much useless but thanks to you i get it. i'm currently leaning towards the sony hvrz5u.

Just a short note to say thank you *very much* for this informative comparison - not only between the Z7U and Z5, but the venerated Canon model as well. Very helpful, especially as I will not have a videographer business to help pay the bill on the camera - I'm evaluating the Z7U for independent film applications instead.
