1$ / GB for HD space?? maybe many years ago. try around $0.30 / GB as of 2006. Does a tape have better shelf life really?? HD's will last very long if you use them as little as a tape. (there's physical friction between the read-head and the tape..how many times can you write to it before it becomes useless??) ..let's not forget the price of the expansive Drive that will actually read/write the stuff, vs a $15 usb case that gives you fast enough transfer for most applications.
