Roland Systems Group (RSG), a leader in portable audio and video field recording devices, is pleased to announce Version 2.0 of the award winning EDIROL F-1 Video Field Recorder with additional accessories. These new features will be debuted at the 2009 NAB show in Las Vegas at the RSG booth (SL10420).

The EDIROL F-1 is the ideal addition for any videographer or producer wanting to accelerate their workflow by capturing high quality video in the field. With two additional audio inputs, no file size limitation, removable storage, networkability and multiple power options, the F-1 can be used anywhere and in a variety of applications.

The feature set of the F-1 now includes:

  • Support for MPEG-2TS formats from 2 to 50 Mbps
  • SD/HD-SDI input via the new EDIROL VC-50HD Video Field Converter
  • 64 GB Solid State Removable Drive Option
  • Loop Record and Pre-Record Functions
  • Free Quick-cut Editing Utility Software
  • Gold Mount Power Adapter Option for Anton Bauer batteries.

With the ability to now support the MPEG-2 TS format up to 50Mbps, very high quality video capture takes you beyond the standard HDV (25 Mbps) level. Additionally the selectable bit rate allows recording as low as 8Mbps (HD) providing up to 27 hours on the standard 120GB hard drive (112 hours at 2Mbps in SD). Using the F-1 in conjunction with the new EDIROL VC-50HD Video Field Converter enables direct SD/HD-SDI recording and playback. (Refer to separate press on EDIROL VC-50HD) The new 64GB solid-state drive ensures reliable recording especially in critical or extreme environments. The EDIROL F1-SSD64 records approximately 4.5 hours in standard MPEG- 2TS (25Mbps).

Loop Recording mode can divide files at selected periods (10/ 30/ 60 minutes) and then keep deleting the oldest file as storage reaches capacity. This function can be controlled remotely via network. The newly added pre-record function ensures that a sudden or important moment is never missed by adding the previous 3 seconds of material onto the current file when record is activated.

The EDIROL F-1 Utility Software has been updated to include an "Edit Mode" which is especially convenient for quick cut editing. In addition to still images, multi-format video can be edited on the same timeline along with any necessary up/down conversion. A free version of the F-1 Utility software can be downloaded at www.edirol.com/f1

Version 2.0 of the F-1 can now record time code with video regardless of whether the connected camera embeds timecode or not. Time code can also be re-generated within an HDV/DV stream. The Marker function stamps the video file with time code and/or recording time when the "REC" button is pressed during recording. This enables the ability to quickly locate scenes during editing.
The video capture files from the F-1 are compatible with all popular NLE software systems.

Clipwrap, from Divergent Media, has now included native support for the F-1 and can rapidly rewrap any F-1 .m2t file as a Final Cut Pro compatible .mov files. Clipwrap is available for download at www.clipwrap.com.
