Canopus Corporation has announced the availability of its EDIUS HD editing workstation. EDIUS HD offers mixed real-time HD/SD editing in a turnkey system for the broadcast and content-creation market. Featuring end-to-end HD production using Canopus HD technology, EDIUS HD includes Canopus EDIUS Pro real-time HD editing software, Canopus HD and HQ software codecs, and the Canopus HDRX-E1 HD-SDI/SDI input and output card.
The Canopus HD software codec supports HD signal recording using the Canopus HDRX-E1 board and playback from the hard disk to HD-D5, HDCAM or DVCProHD VTRs. The Canopus HQ codec is also included. The Canopus HQ codec not only provides luma and chroma sampling of HD video, but also features variable bit-rate support, for increased video quality.
EDIUS HD includes Inscriber TitleMotion HD for Canopus, which provides editors with tools to create high-quality titles and features real-time preview of all titles during composition. TitleMotion also features keyframable animation capabilities within both 2D and 3D spaces.
Canopus has currently chosen the HP Workstation xw8000 as the foundation for EDIUS HD, and a system based on the top-of-the-line 64-bit HP Workstation xw8200 is also being developed. The Canopus HDRX-E1 input/output board includes RS-422 support to provide frame-accurate VTR control and is equipped with standard BNC connectors for both HD-SDI and SDI (two output connectors and a reference input connector).
