Ahead software has announced the release of Nero 6.6, based on the Nero 6.3 platform. Nero Mediahome is new to the platform, and transforms a home network in to a streaming media center and allows files to be shared on a LAN and played back from the server. Nero Photosnap is also entirely new to Nero suites.
Enhancements in the Nero suite have been made to Nero Burning ROM 6, Nero Express 6, Nero StartSmart 2, NeroVision Express 3, Nero Recode 2, and Nero ShowTime 2. These various improvements offer decreased burning time, better integration in Windows XP autoplay, support for batch encoding, and a host of upgrades designed to increase user-friendliness.
Nero Digital with H.264/AVC encoding will be made available sometime in the second half of November. H.264 has been adopted by the DVD Forum as a codec for next-generation HD-DVD and for the by the BDA for the BluRay specification. H.264/AVC has a compression efficiency over MPEG-2, while at the same time integrating into existing MPEG-4 architectures.
