LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling Announces New Licensees
Posted Jun 29, 2004 Print Version     Page 1of 1

HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling has announced several new licensees including leading consumer electronics and software companies. HP is licensing LightScribe to optical disc drive manufacturers, CD and DVD manufacturers, software makers and PC and consumer electronics companies.

The technology enables customers to burn silkscreen-quality labels on their CDs and DVDs with the same drive that was used to burn the data. To date, 12 companies have completed the licensing process and are engaged in various stages of bringing LightScribe into their product portfolios, both to support the initial HP product launch and enable the creation of a market standard labeling solution.

Previously announced licensees include Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. and Toshiba; Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and Moser Baer India Limited; and software company MicroVision Development. The LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling system is a breakthrough in disc labeling technology providing consumers and businesses a customizable, easy-to-use solution for labeling CDs and DVDs without the need for a printer or adhesive paper labels. Using a combination of LightScribe-enabled media, internal or standalone recordable drives and software configurations, customers are able to burn to the data side of the disc, flip the disc over and "burn" a silkscreen-quality label with text and graphics to the label side using the very same laser.
